Who They Are: Drybar is the nation’s premiere blow dry bar specializing in just blowouts -- no cuts, no color! Their founder Alli Webb revolutionized the beauty industry with this simple concept in 2010. Today, Drybar has over 100 locations in the US and Canada and a growing product line.
 
What They Did: The business model is simple: focus on one thing and be the best at it. The brand is fresh, inviting and fun, which comes through in their marketing. They made several brilliant updates to their business and marketing strategy to serve their customers and support their staff during COVID-19:
  • Product Focus: Drybar promoted their hair care product line so that customers could re-create “the perfect blowout” from the comfort (and safety) of their homes, while physical locations were closed. Who They Are: Young, Wild & Friedman is a family-owned business that creates sensory kits and activities for kids. The brand started as a blog in 2017 by Julie Friedman, inspired by her research into the benefits of sensory play to help calm anxiety and encourage language development for one of her children. Today she can hardly keep the kits in stock, and has built a loyal customer base of monthly kit subscribers and fans.
 
What They Do: The brand has grown organically, building a loyal following through Julie's blog and Instagram. Her early content showcased the creative activities and crafts she did with her kids, and eventually her own kits once she launched her business. Her business strategy is to launch a new themed kit each month, giving customers the option to “subscribe and save” through a monthly membership plan.

Who They Are: The House of Noa produces beautiful and functional floor mats for play, kitchen and everyday. Founded by a mom in 2016 and run by a team of her friends, the brand has grown quickly and built a loyal following among their target audience.
 
What They Did: In response to COVID-19 the team created the “Love Opens Windows” fundraising campaign to support NYC hospitals. The #loveopenswindows campaign features hand-illustrated merchandise by the House of Noa designer, Sophia Vincent Guy.

Why I NAWBO

(My very first NAWBO event!) 

In 2012 I learned about NAWBO through a friend at my gym. She invited me to an event in Pasadena,CA and my life as a business owner changed FOREVER.

One of the first game changers was meeting Deb Snyder, who at the time was the membership chair for the LA chapter. (Now is the VP of membership for NAWBO National).  Deb, gave me some great advice, she said “After you join, GET INVOLVED.” With her guidance and introductions I quickly joined the membership committee.


I didn’t know much at all about NAWBO and felt like I didn't have much to add to the conversation.  Looking back, although I didn’t say anything - it was valuable to have another person in the room. Someone who was learning and later would be willing to move the NAWBO mission forward.
