But first, take the Modern Marketing Quiz

Now, make sense of your quiz results!

You received your roadmap and quiz results. This next bit of info will help you understand the key elements of each step.

ONE STEP AT A TIME

You took the quiz, you officially know where you stand (but you probably had some idea before 😉).  Don't overwhelm yourself with everything you SHOULD be doing, OR with everything you SHOULD'VE  been doing.  The truth is you're here, and that's the first step.  Plus, this journey is not an overnight flight.  It's a thoughtful journey that has the power to impact your business in a big way.  Let's get started!

STEP 1

Don't do this alone. If you have a team, tap them to be part of this project. If you don't have anyone, find help, join the #FlexYourInfluence community.

Next, decide how much time you can give to your digital marketing minimum 3-5 hours or for larger organizations 5-8 hours, MINIMUM. Then block this time out on your calendar. If you don't, you know you'll only get to this when you 'have time.'

STEP 2

VERY IMPORTANT.  Don't think of your digital marketing as a silo, separated from your day-to-day.  Rather start with your business goals in mind and begin to think of your digital marketing as a tool to reach those goals, thoughtfully.

This is why you don't make digital marketing a nice-to-do but rather you thoughtfully create a plan. As you did in STEP 1.

STEP 3

Before you can start building content, etc. You need to identify who your audience is, and from there you can identify where they hang out online.  This helps you determine where you should spend your time posting and engaging.

Don't assume.  Really seek to understand the why/where of how people spend their time online.  Just because you might hate a certain platform, it doesn't mean you should count it OUT.  This isn't about you, it's about THEM

STEP 4

In this step you'll identify what steps you want your audience to take after you reach them.  This is also known as a Call-to-action.  We refer to this as the customer journey.  It's important to not leave a captivated audience confused.

Identify 1-3 calls-to-action that you might regularly use. These actions could very depending on current promotions/campaigns. Ideally you'd have some standard CTAs.

STEP 5

Brainstorm with your team about content ideas.  REMEMBER: your digital marketing is not all about SELLING. Rather it's relationship building as a road to selling.

Diversify your content with 80% value-based, community driven, funny, inspiration and 20% being salesy.

Your social media is not a freeway billboard. It's a community hub.

STEP 6

NOW, in this step we can start talking posting and engaging.  You take the lessons you've learned from STEPS 1-5 and begin to apply this to the actual content creation.

In this step, we also emphasize the importance of posting as well as engaging and talking with your target audience. This happens in a myriad of ways.  Hint: this is where hashtags come into play.

STEP 7

Once you have a consistent content creation schedule for your social media and email marketing.  You can start thinking about next level content like: a blog, creating video, podcasts and more.

Pro-tip: your content ideas can be produced via all these medias.  It's a way for your audience to consume the knowledge the way they like to.

STEP 8

Whatever you do, don't SET IT and FORGET IT.  Your digital marketing is made up of thoughtful actions.  Automation is great to a point.  But it's important to monitor and adjust as needed.

Test new ideas, do your research. You're invited to join the #FlexYourInfluence Community to help keep your marketing FRESH!
